Ain’t I a Womyn — a Visual Poem

A powerful homage to Black women, Kai Davis' poem 'Ain't I A Woman' was inspired by Sojourner Truth's 1851 speech of the same name.

Filmed at The Colored Girls Museum in Philadelphia, each woman wears a different earth tone to play on Ntzoke Shange's "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf."

The piece speaks to the duality of a Black woman's identity and the many challenges, struggles, and beauties they experience.

Directed by Sofia Ballin and Jasmine Lynea for Black History Untold.
