Taylar Shirley Catherine Enlow
ABOUT ME
Woman of Letters. Moon Gardener. Storykeeper. Poetess.
My name is Taylar Shirley Catherine Enlow. A mouthful—I know, but I believe that names carry meaning. Most simply call me Taylar. I was born in Lenapehoking, on land also known as the city of Philadelphia.
I am a writer, scholar, and Earth-based healing practitioner birthing and stewarding projects inspired by my first loves: storytelling and the natural world.
During my early teen years, I developed endometriosis—a debilitating and chronic disease. After years of feeling unsupported by the Western medical complex, I journeyed in search of answers. That decade-long initiation led me to the teachings of holistic healing long embodied in Eastern traditions, which are foundational to my life and work today.
Weaving threads of story, soil, and spirit—
My work and research live at the intersection of religion, Black studies, and environmental ethics and explore the relationships between communities of African descent and land & the environment, foregrounding the potential implications of Africana epistemologies for global climate policy.
I am a graduate of Union Theological Seminary where I received an interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Religion with a focus on spiritual ecology; earth ethics; and global indigeneity.
I am also an alumni of Temple University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies—with a focus on Global Cultures and a regional concentration in Africa and the African Diaspora—cum laude with distinction in major.
Previously, I served as a community voice for the National Folklife Network, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, and program coordinator of the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University.
At my core, I am an overzealous cat mom, chai lover, bibliophile, and lifelong apprentice to the Earth.
