Legacy — a Poem

after Warsan Shire

at night

in my blood

past and future merge

I swallow a river

I drink blood

I, holy still

inside me know

love as loneliness

in both words

I worship

the ghosts

find beauty contained

inherit the earth

wait

forget you are

the love of my

life, heal

a curse strange

and beautiful

my daughters and their

daughters dream

of water

beauty where it did

not live

and remedy

the sorrow between my legs

written October 2019.
